Like other glacial rivers, the deltas of Þjórsá attract artistic photographers with their airborne lenses, but before the days of aviation this was exclusively a bird’s-eye view. The river fans out and deposits huge quantities of sediment when its current slows down. These river courses are highly unstable and meander across the sands in ever-changing channels.
